Whereas Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced on September 17, 2026, that the province will permanently switch to year-round Central Daylight Saving Time (DST), meaning clocks will not "fall back" this November; and Whereas the City of Kenora is located within the Central Time Zone, in alignment with Manitoba, but is geographically east of Manitoba and only 40 kms from the Manitoba border; and Whereas the City of Kenora is currently one hour behind the Eastern Time Zone that governs the rest of Ontario, and would be the same clock time if the Central Time Zone stayed on Daylight Savings Time but the Eastern Time Zone continued to fall back to Standard Time; and Whereas each municipality in the current Central Time Zone is considering the change for their own community and consolidated responses will be provided to the Member of Provincial Parliament for the Kenora-Rainy River District Greg Rickford which will then be considered by the Attorney General; Therefore Be It Resolved That Council for the City of Kenora urges the Province to amend the Time Act so that the City of Kenora and other areas of Northwestern Ontario in the Central Time Zone remain on Daylight Savings Time year round to align with the neighbouring province of Manitoba based on the majority of Northwestern Ontario municipalities and First Nation communities agreeing to do the same; and further That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Member of Provincial Parliament for the Kenora-Rainy River District Min
